47th Division had been involved in heavy fighting on the Somme during September and early October, 1916, but by the end of October they had moved north and now found themselves holding the line in the southern part of the Ypres salient. On 8th November, 18th London of 141 Brigade, left their reserve positions at Vlamertinghe and moved into the front line trenches in the Ypres left sub-sector where they stayed until relieved on 18th November. On 14th November the enemy trench mortars were active in the afternoon and it is likely that this was the cause of the death of Albert Robinson. |
